Todd Strother teaches technology classes to students in grades K-8 at Burley School in Chicago. He has taught animation skills to students of all ages on both desktops and iPads. Through his middle school media arts curriculum, he has guided students through award-winning animation film productions, photography exhibitions and graphic design contests.

Eileen Murphy is the author of “360 Degrees of Text” (NCTE, 2011), a book on close reading and powerful writing, the skills featured in the Common Core State Standards. She was the founding English Department Chair at Walter Payton College Prep, one of the country’s highest performing high schools, and a district leader in Chicago Public Schools. As the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for over 100 of Chicago’s highest performing schools, she became passionate about the role technology could play in education in the 21st century. She is currently collaborating as an advisor with Intrinsic Schools, a blended-school design team that will launch the first of a network of new schools in August 2013 in Chicago. Eileen has been collaborating with teachers, administrators, and scholars across the country to bring a new level of rigor and engagement to blended learning in the era of CCSS. She also speaks throughout the country on CCSS, differentiating for growth, and professional collaboration around close reading and evidence-based argumentation.
Michelle Nash has been a Chicago public school educator for ten years. For the past two years at Burley School, she has taught a 5th grade one-to-one iPad classroom in which each student has a dedicated device to use throughout the day. She has assisted in the development of best practices in classroom iPad use and integration strategies for the school and district implemented these in her classroom, and shared her practice as a demonstration classroom for national and international audiences. Before joining Burley, she was a city-wide coach of classroom instruction and received her master's degree in Teacher Leadership. She is a National Board certified teacher in the Middle Childhood Generalist area.
Joe Brennan spent more than thirty years teaching and coaching in high school. His passion for students as multimedia authors led him into the role of AV/Media Coordinator. Still active in education, he is an adjunct instructor for Wilkes University and does professional development for schools independently as well as for Apple Computer and the Discovery Educator Network. Joe is an Apple Distinguished Educator, an American Film Institute Screen Educator, and Chief Technology Officer for his three grandchildren.
Erin Stanfill has been working as a preschool teacher for the past seven years in Chicago. She has achieved her National Board Certification and Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education from the Erikson Institute. Erin has worked in the Head Start and Tuition-Based preschool programs. She currently works at Burley Elementary in the West Lakeview neighborhood. During the summer of 2010, Erin traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy to study with colleagues from around the world and investigated best practices in early childhood education as part of a grant with Fund for Teachers. Erin regularly consults and presents about early childhood practices at universities, workshops, and conferences.
Mark White is a 2nd grade teacher from DG58 with 5 years experience. Prior to being a teacher he practiced law for 15 years. Margaret has taught across grade levels from first grade to twelfth grade, in both regular and gifted classrooms in IL and NY state. She has also provided professional development for teachers through for-profit companies such as Futurekids and Sylvan Education Solutions, later known as Catapult Learning. She has been with Chicago Public Schools as a Technology Integration Specialist for 5-1/2 years, where she has created online tutorials and coordinated the iPad grant programs. She is currently the IT Training Manager in Chicago Public Schools.
K.C. Boyd serves Chicago’s Bronzeville community as a Library Media Specialist at AUSL Wendell Phillips Academy High School. She is the recipient of the CPS Dept. of Libraries 2012 VITAL Technology Grant. Through this grant, Boyd has successfully integrated iPad and NOOK technologies into the school curriculum. She has Masters degrees in Media Communications, Education Leadership and Library Science. During her tenure with Chicago Public Schools, Boyd has worked at the elementary, high school and administration level. She is also the former coordinator for the Mayor Daley Book Club for Middle School Students.
Boyd is also the creator and producer of "Behind the Paws" a student news program. She created the first NOOK Street Lit. Book Club for Teens in the country. An advocate for school libraries, Boyd is also the author of “The Audacious Librarian” and “Miss Domino” blogs where she documents her work with high school students, discusses effective use of technology in K-12 education and reviews books for teens/adults. She frequently tweets @Boss_Librarian. Boyd is a sought after and popular conference presenter at the local, state and national levels. During the 2012-2013 school year, she was awarded the coveted, 'Chicago Public Schools Ones to Watch Award' and has been inducted into the 'Chicago Public Schools Librarian Hall of Fame.' She is currently featured on the Chicago Public Schools 'Social Media Toolkit Page' and has been named a 'Social Media Trailblazer'. Boyd mentors new librarians and teaches the courses, Children and Young Adult Literature and Multi-Cultural Literature at Chicago State University. Anita Orozco-Huffman is the Director of Student Learning at National Teachers Academy. She works with teachers to help them innovate their use of digital devices. She is passionate about using technology to differentiate and transform teaching and learning. Nick Giacobbe has been an educator for nine years. Since 2007, he has been teaching kids with special needs at Burley School, a CPS school in the Lakeview neighborhood. He has a broad range of teaching experience, having taught first through sixth grades, and has taught students with a wide variety of learning needs and challenges. Right now, Nick works with a diverse group of learners in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. He is an active member of Burley’s iPad Initiative and regularly presents to other educators on improving classroom workflow and increasing student independence through the use of Apple products and Google Apps.
